Proposed Illinois Bill Seeks to Require Universities to Distribute Abortion Pills
An Illinois House Bill (HB 3709) seeks to force university campuses to provide, prescribe, and promote chemical abortion drugs.
HB 3709 would require public universities to provide access to abortionists authorized to prescribe chemical abortion drugs and, if the university has a pharmacy, to dispense these drugs. Additionally, campuses would be compelled to promote these drugs on their websites.
Chemical Abortion Pills Are Dangerous:
Chemical abortion drugs are the deadliest form of abortion; these pills make up the largest share of abortions in the U.S. killing over 630,000 preborn children last year. Since 2000, over 30 women have died because of these drugs.
A recent study by the Ethics & Public Policy Center analyzed over 865,000 insurance claims from 2017 to 2023 and found that nearly 11% of women experienced serious adverse events—such as sepsis, hemorrhaging, or infection—within 45 days of taking mifepristone. This rate is significantly higher than the 0.5% reported in clinical trials.
The abortion industry knows that these drugs are deadly and dangerous, yet, they have doubled down on them as a convenient profit maker and way to by-pass pro-life laws.
These drugs are dangerous for women and there is absolutely no reason students on university campuses should be committing their own abortions, ending the lives of their preborn child, and putting their own lives at risk.
In fact, the alarming incidences of adverse health effects on women have led Health and Human Services Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., to declare “a complete review” of Mifepristone, the first pill used in chemical abortion, and its impact on women’s health.
