After The "Choice"

Feeling pressured to get an abortion? Is abortion really safe?

What about the consequences for you? (www.afterabortion.org)

Have you evaluated the risks and alternatives?

Immediate:

¨ 2-3% of patients suffer perforation of their uterus

¨ 1% of first trimester abortions result in cervical lacerations requiring sutures

¨ Teens who abort have a high risk for post-abortion infections

¨ 5% of patients develop pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) within 4 weeks after a first trimester abortion

¨ 10% of women undergoing abortion will suffer immediate complications, 20% of these complications are life threatening, including infection, excessive bleeding, convulsions, chronic abdominal pain, and gastro-intestinal disturbances

Long-term:

¨ Teens who abort are more likely to develop psychological problems, 3 times more likely to be admitted into a mental hospital, and 2 to 4 times more likely to commit suicide

¨ 30% increased risk of breast cancer after abortion, 50% increased risk if a family history of breast cancer

¨ 7-15 times greater risk of placenta previa in later pregnancies

¨ Increase of pre-maturity in later wanted pregnancy, increasing the risk of cerebral palsy

¨ Risk of dying after an abortion is four times higher than after miscarriage or childbirth

¨ 91% of women suffer from post abortion stress syndrome

22 Scientific Studies on Abortion and Breast Cancer

There are 180,000 new cases of breast cancer per year in America,
an increase of 50% since abortion was legalized in 1973.

giving birth to a live baby.

Abortion increases the risk of breast cancer by at least 30%,
50% if there is a family history of breast cancer.
(11)

There are 5,000 more cases of breast cancer
caused by induced abortion each year.
(13)

During the ten years of state-funded abortions (1974-84),
the breast cancer rate among poor women rose 53%.
(14)

In women under age 18, abortion after 8 weeks of pregnancy
causes a 900% increased risk of breast cancer.
