Paul Hill is not Pro-Life nor is he a martyr

On the evening of September 3rd, Paul Hill was executed by lethal injection in Florida .  He was convicted of the murder of abortionist John Britton and his escort, James Barrett, at an abortion clinic in Pensacola, Fla., on July 29, 1994.  In statements made shortly before his death, Hill continued his attempts to justify his crime.

No religious or Pro-Life organizations agree with Hill's logic.  Murder can never be justified as a means to end abortion.  Since they recognize his actions as wrong, Pro-Life citizens will not consider Paul Hill a martyr after his execution.  The real tragedy is Hill's ongoing insistence that he was right and his death under the laws of Florida for his crime.  The debate on the use of the death penalty will continue, but Hill's children will be without a father because of his wrongful actions.

Two individuals who are consistently rejected by the Pro-Life movement, Neal Horsley and Donald Spitz, apparently desire that Paul Hill is seen as a martyr.  Their viewpoints are not consistent with Pro-Life principles.  These viewpoints are their own and will be rejected by Pro-Life citizens.

In contrast, the true concerns of the Pro-Life movement are represented by the actions of Norma McCorvey and Sandra Cano.  These two brave women, plaintiffs in the Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton Supreme Court decisions respectively, have each filed motions seeking that those cases be overturned.  They have recognized that abortion hurts women, and they have obtained the testimony of thousands of women who have been hurt by abortion.

McCorvey and Cano have both indicated that their cases were based on lies and deception.  The attorneys that moved their cases forward had an agenda to legalize abortion and used their difficult circumstances to justify legal action that they were not even fully aware of.  Concern for both mothers and their children motivates Pro-Life citizens to demand legal protection for all human life from conception to natural death.  Paul Hill and his two vocal supporters will not distract the Pro-Life movement from that mission.
