Partial Birth Abortion Ban: In Depth

Partial Birth Abortion:
NOT for health of the mother;
Rather, for the abortionists' convenience

The 2003 Federal law to ban partial birth abortion has been ruled constitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court in a ruling issued on April 18, 2007.  While this ruling is crafted on narrow grounds, it does present some potential positive implications on the legal landscape regarding abortion.    Get more details here:  Supreme Court Upholds Partial-Birth Abortion Ban on 5-4 Decision    IRLC press release     More articles ...

The opposition to a ban on partial birth abortion continues to proclaim the need for a "health exception".  How can a procedure that is not even taught to medical students become necessary to protect a woman's health?  No, the ban on partial birth abortion does not need a health exception, because the procedure itself is dangerous and solely for the convenience of abortionists.

The gruesome nature of partial birth abortion highlights the gruesome nature of any abortion.  That is why abortion supporters are taking such an aggressive stand to defend the indefensible.  They recognize that if the ban on partial birth abortion is allowed to stand, it will lead to regulations on other gruesome abortion procedures.  And, when the truth be told, what abortion procedure is not gruesome?  The only real difference is that with partial birth abortion, the gruesome action is visible while it is hidden in the womb for other abortion procedures.

As President George W. Bush observed before signing the bill, "America stands for liberty, for the pursuit of happiness and for the unalienable right of life.  And the most basic duty of government is to defend the life of the innocent.  Every person, however frail or vulnerable, has a place and a purpose in this world.  Every person has a special dignity.  This right to life cannot be granted or denied by government, because it does not come from government, it comes from the Creator of life."  Case closed!  Abortion cannot be legal because government has no power to deny the right to life.
