A Nation "going to the dogs"!

A Nation "going to the dogs"!

September 4, 2007

Michael Vick’s saga captivated newsmakers and the public with disclosures of his personal financial dealings and inhumane treatment of pit bull “fighting dogs”. Not surprisingly, no voices of racial activists, advocacy groups or the American Civil Liberties Union are to be heard in defense of Vick. No one questioned Michael Vick should be stripped of his NFL jersey, along with the loss of a $130,000,000 contract, and millions in lucrative sponsorships. Many believe Vick is getting off “too lightly” if given a mere one-year sentence.

One of Michael Vick’s sponsors correctly labeled his actions “Inhumane, abhorrent and unacceptable”. Why it is that society isn’t nearly as energized or vocal, when faced with an estimated 75,000,000 abortions-on-demand, performed within the United States since 1973? It’s the strangest of national perversions that the same society that severely punishes any who would “choose” to kill or mistreat an animal they purchased, summarily endorses as a matter of “personal choice” the unlimited right to murder an infant- in or out of the womb; an infant conceived by willful actions of the individuals “choosing” to kill the infant!

How does a society known for its unabashed “political correctness” show less consternation or public outrage at the countless, heinously gruesome “partial birth abortions” executed throughout the United States, than for the inhumane treatment of a dog? Why haven’t we seen a like degree of investigative reporting leveled at the highly lucrative role played out by organizations like Planned Parenthood, and their legions of unnamed abortionist’s, who have been complicit in performing procedures that could equally be described as “inhumane, abhorrent and unacceptable” as well as specifically intended to destroy a defenseless human life?

The answer is simply that “abortion is legal”; whereas inhumane treatment of an animal is “illegal”!  Maybe more strident voices of dog-lovers and Animal Rights activists are required in order to awaken a nation suffering from an irrationally amoral conscience, and serve, as well, to broaden efforts and results at securing more “humane treatment” for all forms of life—including the sanctity of  an unborn infant’s life!

The media attention given to protecting Michael Vick’s trained fighting dogs-although justified- raises serious questions as to this society’s moral and ethical turpitude. It’s another distressing example of where we stand today regarding our commitment to the United States Constitution and its guarantees to the “Right to Life”! It proves how silent -and indeed reticent-society has become in addressing-- in the same seriousness terms-- the “Right to Life” issue, and the horrendous consequences when failing to support that inalienable, God-Given Right, to the countless unnamed, defenseless human beings  slaughtered in our midst every single day.

Yes, Abortion is “legal”.  And yes, abortion is “inhumane”, as is the willful mistreatment of animals. They are both an assault upon the Natural Law, “recognized” even within the animal kingdom, where the wildest of beasts “protect their young”.  But there is no doubt that abortion, and loss of respect for life in all of it stages from conception to death, is “the greatest moral issue, and evil” confronting our society today! And some still wonder why this otherwise great nation is “going to the dogs”.
