Abortion Thinking is Misguided
Below
is a letter to the editor that appeared in the December 29, 2005 issue
Abortion thinking is misguided The epidemic abortion of pre-born infants in America is a miscarriage of justice upon humanity. Consider how misguided our thinking is on this issue. First, we assume that young people are predetermined to engage in irresponsible sex, so the discussion shifts to topics like "a woman's right over the use of her body." I believe in a woman's right to choose; that is, she has the right not to engage in irresponsible sexual activity. I also believe in a man's rights concerning his body. He needn't be a sexual predator of women. If choice is the issue, I say choose responsible sexual behavior within marriage where even an "unplanned" pregnancy may become the blessing of a child. After all, Mary, the mother of God, had an unplanned pregnancy. We've reduced human beings to animals running consigning them to a Skinnerian maze of irresponsible sexual behavior. When husbands and wives engage in responsible sexual behavior with each other instead of an adulterous alternative, their children may have a more wholesome view of sex within marriage. When parents begin talking more with their kids about life, the issue of consent vs. notification won't require the Supreme Court. When the false labels of "pro-choice vs. pro-life" yield to the pro-human issue of responsible human sexual behavior, we will finally be talking about the root cause of the abortion issue. Paul O.
