AMA Wants "Morning-After" Pill Sold OTC

In early December, the pro-abortion American Medical Association recommended that the "morning after" pill be sold over-the-counter, rather than by prescription only.

According to the RNC for Life Faxnotes, the drugs are being promoted as "emergency contraception" and are marketed under the names Preven and Plan B.

The drug, marketed to be used within 72 hours of sexual intercourse, acts in two ways. It can inhibit ovulation, or it can cause the lining of the uterus to harden, thereby making it impossible for the tiny baby to implant. Thus, a very early abortion results.

Efforts are being made in Congress to prevent the distribution of the "morning after" pill at school-based clinics under Title X funding.  Mark Crutcher, founder and president of Life Dynamics, Inc., hit the nail on the head in a recent edition of LifeTalk. He said that the AMA would like to see such pills sold in blister packs at (stores like) the 7-Eleven.
