Impacts from Fall 40 Days for Life 40 Days for Life consists of prayer and fasting, constant vigil, and community outreach. The latest 40 Days for Life campaign has run from September 23rd to November 1st at 212 locations around the nation, including seven in Illinois. The Illinois vigils have taken place at abortion facilities in Aurora, Chicago, Downers Grove, Glen Ellyn, Granite City, Champaign, and Peoria. Nationally, as of Day 34, 411 babies have been confirmed saved based on feedback from the mothers or their relatives and friends to the participants at the constant vigils there. Such impact to change hearts could only be possible with the prayers from vigil participants and many other supporters of the 40 Days for Life effort. The Chicago vigil at Family Planning Associates has seen a significant impact with the reduction in cars seen in the parking lot. The onsite vigil and prayers must be leading mothers to choose life even before they enter the parking lot, so they just keep on going. One day early in the vigil sidewalk counselors had four mothers who decided to choose life for their babies. Rosa at Planned Parenthood in Pasadena, California was approached by a woman who walked out of the clinic and said shed changed her mind about having an abortion. When I saw you praying out in front, it made me think about what I was planning on doing, the woman said. I was inside the center and realized that God has been good to me and that this baby is a blessing. Please keep up what you are doing. You are making a difference. At some locations, abortion clinic employees have been moved to quit their jobs. One of these occurred in California and another at the notorious Hope Clinic in Granite City IL. From that location Angela reported the abortion facility nurse came out and hugged her. Thank you for praying for me, she told Angela. Your witness has been powerful to me. This is my last day! Im going off to do what real nurses should be doing. In a third case, the director of a Planned Parenthood in Texas quit and joined 40 Days for Life. In a number of cases, including Indianapolis and Washington, D.C., abortion clinics have been closed on some days when they normally commit abortions, confirming the impact of reduced customers because mothers are choosing life. These are just a few of the many positive impacts coming from this latest 40 Days for Life campaign. If you missed this one, plan to participate in 40 Days for Life during 2010.
Truth Versus Deception in Health Care Reform Polling data indicate that 71% of Americans object to government funding of abortion. Given that statistic, it seems that government leaders in Washington, D.C. are trying hard to convince the public that abortion is not funded in the health care reform bills under development in Congress. Unfortunately, that claim is totally false because every version of health care reform that has been approved by any committee in either the House or Senate has included government funding of abortion. Every attempted amendment to block such funding has been rejected so far. The latest explanation used has been claims that the Hyde Amendment will prevent government funding of abortion. This claim is totally false as well because the Hyde Amendment only applies to the Medicaid funding bill to which it is annually attached. Since health care reform would not be funded under that bill, it is not possible for the Hyde Amendment to prohibit government funding of abortion under health care reform. If anyone ever finally admits that abortion is actually funded, they then claim the government plan must cover abortion because most private insurance plans already do. Recent statistics from Michigan reveal that only 1.8% of women relied in insurance coverage for their abortion while 98.1% paid themselves. Since there is no reason for health insurance in Michigan to be different than in other states, it becomes clear that this justification for including abortion in the health care bill is a serious distortion or outright lie. What else are you being misled about regarding health care reform? Do you recall hearing that conscience rights of medical personnel will be protected? No specific provisions exist in these bills to protect conscience rights. If such protections existed, dont you think abortion advocates would be complaining about discriminating against women and setting back reproductive rights by decades? With an administration filled with abortion advocates, how do you think they will establish rules for areas left open to interpretation? What about health care rationing? Do you think cutting $500 million out of Medicare funding will reduce the availability of health care? It takes a creative definition of waste to say such cuts will have no impact. The Baucus bill in the Senate tried another approach to put the blame for rationing on doctors. That bill pressures doctors to ration health care via financial penalties. These financial rules are very complex so no doctor will know until after the fact if they will be penalized. This way every doctor will be concerned they need to reconsider whether to perform tests and procedures that they know should be used in the best interests of their patients. Both independent and government agencies have found that the cost of health insurance will go higher under government-run health care as compared to the current system. What government program can you think of that runs more efficiently than private industry? In summary, the current health care reform under consideration is problematic on abortion, conscience rights, rationing of care, discrimination against those who cannot contribute to society (based on whose judgment?), government control of health care, etc. What is the solution of health care reform advocates for these concerns? Just misrepresent the facts by denying that any of these results will occur under their plan. Testimony from citizens of other nations with government-run health care who come here to solve their health care problems demonstrate it is not wise to believe these same problems will not occur here. Farewell to Kiddieland How many children leaving IRLC Family Fun Night at Kiddieland on September 11th knew this was the last time they would be able to enjoy their favorite rides? When they find out, that date may represent another disaster for them beyond its historical connection to 9/11/01. Sadly, just over two weeks later on September 27th Kiddieland was forced to close forever. The owners of the land refused to renew the lease so the owners of Kiddieland had no choice but to close it down. They have tried to sell it as one complete unit, but that approach fell through so now the historic rides will be auctioned off. IRLC is thankful for the 14 years of annual fun this event has provided for supporters of life throughout the Chicago area and beyond. We will all miss Kiddieland! If you have any suggestions of a place you enjoy that we could adopt as a new fun-raising event for future years, we would appreciate your suggestions. Call IRLC at 312-422-9300.
President's Report: Maafa 21 Black Genocide In July, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was quoted in the New York Times saying, Frankly I had thought that at the time Roe was decided, there was concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we dont want to have too many of. It was a shocking statement by a very powerful person in the United States. Its surprising to learn that her position about population, birth control and abortion are consistent with the eugenics movement. Maafa 21 is a new film produced by Mark Crutcher and Life Dynamics. Maafa is a Swahili word for disaster. It exposes the hidden and bitter realities of Black Genocide in modern America. The movie traces the eugenics movement from the end of slavery until today. The early eugenicists were concerned about the impact of freeing the slaves and looked for methods to control the growth of the black population. It includes the involvement of Margaret Sanger, founder of the American Birth Control League in 1921, which eventually became Planned Parenthood. She was actively involved in the eugenics movement and many eugenicists served in Planned Parenthood as well. She was a regular speaker at eugenicist and racist conferences. After giving a speech to one chapter of the Ku Klux Klan, she was invited to speak at several other Klan meetings. When Hitler came to power in the 1930s in Germany, many people from the American eugenics movement were advocates of his policies to promote a pure race. These same people were involved in the American Birth Control League and later Planned Parenthood. The film covers forced sterilization in the 60s and the push for birth control and abortion, with blacks the primary target. The evidence drawn from numerous speeches and books is convincing. It is clear that the program has been consistently advanced since its early conception by the eugenicists and is ongoing. The film records the involvement of powerful people and corporations, including the Rockefellers, Warren Buffet, The Carnegie Foundation and Bill Gates, in eugenics and population control. It describes the efforts of the United States, including some of our presidents, to export population control throughout the world and especially to control the growth of the black population. You hear the voice of President Nixon from the recently released tapes of his Administration, promoting population control against blacks. The issue crosses all political lines. Planned Parenthood was essentially hired to implement the policies of black genocide by providing that organization with funds for family planning so that it wouldnt be perceived as a government program of genocide. Over 80% of Planned Parenthoods facilities are located in minority communities. Blacks represent only 13% of the population, but account for 37% of all abortions. The film documents how we export our policies of abortion and birth control around the world. US funds for developing nations, such as Africa and Central America, are often tied to acceptance of birth control and abortion. After watching this movie its hard to understand why the African American community is not more involved in the Pro-Life movement, since they are clearly the target. In the late 60s, many civil rights activists, including the Black Panthers and even Jesse Jackson, recognized that population control was directed toward eliminating the black community. Jackson was against abortion and concerned about black genocide until he ran for President. This movie is an excellent tool to educate the African-American community about the abortion lobbys real agenda. It will have an impact on everyone who sees it, not only because the abortion lobbys agenda is so blatantly racist, but sadly because it is true. Euthanasia Threat in Hospice or Hospital The threat of hastened death from delayed or rationed care under health care reform has raised awareness and concern about what constitutes good medical care. Unfortunately, there is another problem that already exists use of morphine overdoses and/or denial of food and water to hasten death. I have recently received calls from around the nation from people who found the IRLC web site information on hastened death. Callers from Mississippi, Virginia, and New Mexico were seeking help to prevent, or share their painful story about, the hastened death of a dear relative. The callers from Mississippi were brother and sister to a 72-year-old Chicago woman who recently had a stroke. They were trying to prevent their sister from being starved to death in the hospital. Doctors said she was in a coma and could not recover. First, they pulled the respirator, but she kept breathing. Then they stopped providing food and water, except for a morphine drip. A grandchild and an aunt who visited the patient reported interaction with her. She opened her eyes in response to things they said to her. At least to them, the dire prognosis was premature. I referred the callers to the Thomas More Society for legal help, but noted that the law does not work well when the matter is urgent. The caller from Virginia told me how her father died prematurely when a doctor and hospice decided 89 years was enough for him because of low quality of life. After a hospital stay to overcome pneumonia, he was ready to go home and the family was ready to take him home, but a doctor raised the issue of food aspiration, suggesting they could not take care of him on their own. The medical basis for this concern is unclear, but it created fear that affected the familys decisions. Even though this patient had no terminal illness, the family ultimately accepted getting hospice involved. Hospice wanted to give the patient morphine, even though he told them he was not in pain. Family members did not allow use of morphine at first, but severe restrictions on food and water intake by mouth led to symptoms of dehydration. Rather than offering an IV or feeding tube, hospice pushed morphine. Between dehydration and morphine, the patient died rather quickly. The most shocking call came from a volunteer for a hospice located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was checking on hospice after encountering a situation she found extremely disturbing. She felt she was witnessing something similar to the Auschwitz concentration camp. This hospice provides services both in the home setting, which is very common, but also has an in-patient hospice unit. As a hospice volunteer visiting patients in their homes, she felt comfortable in her role. Then she was asked to help at the in-patient hospice unit. She found the patients there were comatose and not being fed. Apparently, this hospice is practicing terminal sedation on an assembly line basis. Terminal sedation is defined as the deliberate termination of awareness for relief of intractable pain when specific pain relieving protocols or interventions are ineffective and/or relief of intractable emotional or spiritual anguish. An essential component of terminal sedation is withdrawal of all treatment, including food and water, so that death occurs as soon as possible. How could so many people have intractable pain or anguish? What about the hospice role to provide palliative care and counseling to overcome such concerns? Bill Beckman
Study Confirms Gardasil Danger Researchers from the Federal Vaccine Events Reporting System recently issued a report concluding that the human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine Gardasil has a 400% higher rate of adverse effects than another comparable vaccine, the Menactra anti-meningitis shot. Why did this report not make the news? The researchers considered Gardasil and Menactra equivalent for the purposes of comparison because they are given to similar age groups at similar frequencies. The researchers wrote, It is unusual for there to be such a big discrepancy between two vaccines used in similar populations involving serious and relatively rare life threatening adverse events and autoimmune disorders. The study concluded that Gardasil was associated with twice as many emergency room visits, four times as many deaths, four times as many heart attacks, seven times as many disabled reports and 15 times as many strokes. Even fainting occurred six times more often, countering the claim that fear of needles caused it, since both shots are given to girls in the same age group. The report recommends that the government more thoroughly investigate reports of dangerous side effects from the HPV vaccine, that research be conducted into mechanisms by which the vaccine might cause these effects, and that patients and parents be more adequately warned of the risks before vaccination. It also recommends that Congress investigate how the vaccine was fast-tracked for approval in the absence of safety data on girls younger than 17. These recommendations confirm the concerns that Pro-Lifers raised from the beginning. The risks from Gardasil appear to far outweigh its benefits, making it too dangerous to use, especially given the limited protection it offers against HPV, and the even less impact it might have in preventing cervical cancer. One of Mercks own researchers, Dr. Diane Harper, told CBS News that a girl is more likely to die from an adverse reaction to Gardasil than from cervical cancer. As recommended by IRLC before, just say NO if any doctor pushes this vaccine on your daughter.
Is Aborted Fetal DNA in Vaccines Linked to Autism? Use of aborted fetal cell cultures to produce vaccines has raised moral concerns and led some parents to avoid such vaccines for moral reasons. Theresa Deisher, based on her career experience with biotechnology, recognized these moral issues as well. Ultimately, she decided to form the company AVM Biotechnology with a mission to produce vaccines and other medicines using moral means. As Deisher reviewed the situation with vaccines derived using aborted fetal cell cultures, she evaluated another concern, the increasing incidence of autism following childhood vaccinations. She noted that the prevalence of autism spectrum disorder began rising dramatically in the USA after 1978 and in the United Kingdom in 1988. In both nations, increasing cases of autism followed introduction of a new measles-mumps-rubella vaccine that used aborted fetal cell cultures. While studies have been done that concluded the mercury additive in this vaccine did not contribute to increased cases of autism, Deisher pointed out that what was not considered in any studies done to date was an examination of the potential health consequences of having contaminating DNA from the producing cell line in the final vaccine product. Might aborted fetal cell DNA be the source of this tragic increase in autism? Can it be purely a coincidence that autism increases dramatically in two nations after introduction of a new vaccine? If not, what might be the cause of such tragedy? Here is a theory that has merit to be studied seriously. Some outside agent must be involved when autism jumps from less than four children per 10,000 in 1978 to 68 per 10,000 by 2000, and continues to increase to as many as 100 per 10,000 in 2009. Even without knowing the cause, the connection between autism and this vaccine seems to suggest a danger that should be avoided. Therefore, parents may have two good reasons to avoid vaccines derived through use of aborted fetal cell cultures, both a moral issue and the potential medical risk that may exist from aborted fetal cell DNA.
Lancet Editors: More Birth Control The British medical journal Lancet has been cited as one of the most reputable medical journals in the world (September 2, 2008 LifeSiteNews.com). The Lancet earned this citation by publishing articles that have challenged the politically correct position on various medical topics. A recent Lancet editorial has countered that pattern in a shocking way. In this editorial, the publishers of Lancet said contraception should be distributed on a worldwide basis specifically in nations in Africa to cut back on the population as a solution for so-called climate change. Lancet editors followed the lead of the London School of Economics in advocating population control as a solution for climate change. A researcher at that school suggested contraception would be more cost effective in reducing global CO2 emissions than use of green technologies. Given the collapsing population already occurring in so many nations, the Lancet should reconsider this serious lapse in common sense of jumping on the population control bandwagon when it courts disastrous consequences for the future of many nations.
