The Deafening Silence Surrounding an Last year Phoenix abortionist Brian Finkel faced abuse charges from more than 60 women who complained he inappropriately touched them during abortions and examinations. After a lengthy trial, he was convicted in early December 2003 on 22 counts of sexual abuse. Finkel was sentenced on January 2nd to 34 years in prison as the penalty for his conviction on those 22 counts. Finkel was also required to register as a convicted sex offender and would be placed on lifetime probation if he lives past the conclusion of the 34-year prison term when he would be 88 years old. This case reveals another lie about abortion. Abortionists do not perform abortions to help women. They perform abortions to make fast money, and some, like Finkel, take the opportunity to abuse women at the same time. After receiving these details from Pro-Life sources, I searched for news articles about Finkels conviction. Negative news about an abortionist is apparently not considered newsworthy because no coverage was given to Finkels trial, conviction, or sentencing in any of the Chicago newspapers. Of course, organizations that claim to represent the interests of women, such as the National Organization for Women and NARAL Pro-Choice America, do not inform their members that abortions are safer again now that this sexual predator has been put in jail. There is not a peep about Brian Finkel on their web sites. How can NOW and NARAL claim to represent women when they have more concern about protecting abortionists who prey on women? I can guess the NOW and NARAL response, assuming they could be persuaded to respond. They will say it is tragic that so many women will not be able to obtain needed abortions in Arizona because Brian Finkel has been prevented from providing abortions. They will say the women who testified against Finkel are vindictive and have no basis to accuse him. Fortunately, Finkel will remain in prison while he appeals his conviction.
